Sainsburys credit card - need payment to reach today

Options
I stupidly forgot to pay my Sainsbury's credit card bill and the payment is due today. Is there anywhere I can go to ensure the money reaches them today, so I don't get a Late Payment fee?

I only have a debit of £23 left to pay on the card so really don't want a £12 late payment charge next month as I was hoping to close it this month.

Thanks in advance :D

Just googled and on their FAQs they say they don't accept Faster Payments - so that won't work. Need to ask them if paying over the phone using your debit card will register today.

There is a freephone number to ask them - 0500 405060.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Most UK banks can send and receive “Faster Payments”. A payment will be received within a maximum of two hours (usually within minutes).

Check the sort code of your bank and the receiving one.

Do you, or anyone you know, have a Halifax or BoS current account?

I have a suspicion that if you send a payment online it won't show until tomorrow but will be backdated to today once they process it.

Disclaimer: It's only a suspicion due to their ties with BoS, so no guarantees!

Advice: Direct Debits don't "stupidly forget" to take your payment, assuming you don't "stupidly forget" to ensure funds are available in your current account. Something you might want to bear in mind for future dealings with credit card providers?

    Good luck.
  • Whilst they do not receive the funds instantly many credit card companies will credit an over the telephone debit card payment to the date the payment is taken rather than the date funds are received. Best thing to do would be to call them and follow their advice but making a note of the time you called and who you spoke to.

Yes, but that's of no help if the credit card company doesn't accept FP, which many (including Sainsbury according to Redpete, which doesn't surprise me as I believe they are issued by HBOS who have a pretty ropey FP service) don't.

Best bet is to ring them and ask them for advice.

Fair enough......but I never said Sainbury would, I only wanted to give the link for the OP to check it out.
When I had looked it up and posted it, I hadn't seen Redpete's reply.

Both my CC (MBNA and Santander) accept FP. - Maybe that will make the MBNA and Santander bashers think again. :D:D:D

Sorry, didn't spot that your post was shortly after Redpete's so you probably wouldn't have seen his comment. It's a good link for anyone to use, I know when I worked on FP development CCs were lagging behind so it's good to see that some of them are starting to catch up.
