Halifax Credit Card PPI

Hi,
In May of this year, i submitted a complaint to Halifax regarding the manner in which i was sold a PPI policy in February 2002.
I have now received a letter from Halifax informing me that they are upholding my complaint and they have made me an offer (of sorts).
They say that their final offer is to refund all the PPI premiums paid, inlcusive of interest and the 8% interest.
Here's the catch, they're asking me to accept this, their final offer, but they're not prepared to tell me what the offer is. They say, if i'm not willing to accept the offer, i should revert to the ombudsman?
Is this right? Can they really do that? Seems like a dirty delaying tactic to me. Has anyone got any experience of this?
Cheers,
BerksTiger

Hi berkstiger
I think that is the offer that others here say you'd be entitled to, as long as you get the interest you've paid on it too. Im sure others will be along to give advice soon. Well done on the win :j , we have one in with them since mid may too. Do you mind me asking what kind of applicTion it was? Ive heard a few coming through which were in branch applications. Im just wondering if anyone has won from an online or paper application form??Mary B0 -
Hi Maryspecial,
The application for the credit card was made in person at a Halifax branch. Here's how they mis-sold me the PPI policy: In 2002 I was 19 years of age, the saleswomen clear explained to me the benefits of having the PPI policy. I thought it sounded worthwhile, so i ticked the box (she didn't explain the terms and conditions). In May this year, I asked Halifax for a copy of the T&Cs for the PPI policy i was sold, back in 2002. They promptly provided them. The first line of the T&Cs: "You must be 21 years of age or older to be eligible for this cover".
Best of luck with your claim!0 -
I have had the same letter last Friday, worried what I am agreeing to without seeing any figures.
Also put my complaint in mid May by post0 -
Wendy,
Did you get the Appendices too, explaining how they will work out your redress and what 'assumptions' they may have to make if the account goes back further than 6 years (i.e. the period of time for which they have to keep records)?
It was their referecne to these 'assumptions' and a 'preference account' that i was mainly worried about. I phoned them this morning and the chap confirmed to me that my account was not a 'preference account' and that they did have records for my account activity, right back to 2002.
Following the phone call, I filled in the acceptance form and sent it back with a cover letter, explaining what i had been told over the phone and that i expect to see that refelected in their calculation of my redress.
The form went in the mail today, i'll let you know how i get on :cool:0 -

Yes they can do that. They are giving you their offer. If you reject it, they can withdraw it and you can let the FOS decide sometime in the next 2 years.
They have given the information of the offer. A refund of premiums plus interest. Do you think that is unfair? if so why?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Another halifax credit card win?? Well done!! Theres been a lot over the last few weeks. Im no expert but i think they are refunding the premiums, interest paid as a result of adding it on and 8%interest. I also think that when they provide you with the figures , if you dont agree with the figures then you can go back to them. Hopefully some of the more experienced folk like Di, Amersall etc will see this and get back to you with good advice. If not post your question on the success thread and they'll see it there.
Ps was your application an in branch application?Mary B0 -
As Dunstonh says, they will give you a refund of premiums plus interest.
If you accept and the calculations are wrong, you can ask them to look at this again, hopefully you wont though.0 -
Just double checked my letter, it is for my Britannia CC but is dealt with by Halifax, I am waiting on my halifax CC does state this in letter that I will hear separately, but hoping for success as this one has been upheld.
Has got appendix's giving examples but they are all pretty low refunds, which is what got me worried.
Anyhow letter does say all PPI premiums, inclusive interest plus the simply interest of 8%. I have had the card since 2007, my halifax CC i have had since around 2001.
Will keep you updated0 -
Had the same letter today. Thought it was strange they ask you to agree but give you no further details other than 3 long winded examples...0
