Hi I bought a 22inch technika tv in february from tesco to use in my bedroom, has worked no problems great tv until last week when the remote stopped working. I thought it was the batteries so changed them still wouldnt work. Bought a new set of batteries from tesco just incase for some reason the remote didnt like my asda remote still no joy. I looked for my receipt but cant find it anywhere still have the box which has tesco tape on it and a sticker proofing that I have bought from tesco. After ringing tchnika helpline and getting no joy I took the tv back to tesco and explained it was faulty. They refused to do anything without a receipt. I know when I worked for m&s if a product was faulty you didnt need a receipt but is this just m&s policy or trading act?
Thanks for your help

You don't need a receipt but you need some proof of purchase.
A credit card or bank statement will be okay for this (you may well find that the sales staff initially refuse this, but stand your ground and inform them that according to consumer direct, it should be sufficient proof).
You might even be able to find the date/time of purchase on a clubcard statement if you have one.0 -
How did you pay for it?
As you know roughly when, credit/debit card statements should serve as proof of purchase and they should be able to check their records to confirm upon sight of your proof.
Hope this helps.0 -
