What's better VM 30MB or BT Infinity?

It takes 10 minutes to set up a Gmail account and 5 minutes to do a group email to all your contacts.
Then say 5 minutes per utility/account to log in and change your email address?
So maybe an hour to an hour and a half total.
You then have an ISP-independent address forever.
How is that 'a nightmare'?

http://www.virginmedia.com/images/tm-table-su-large.jpg I wouldn't touch Virgin with a bargepole for this reason. Quartering your connection speed in the evenings just isn't acceptable.
As for BT, again, wouldn't go near.
Wait until the FTTC market opens up and stick with a decent, high-usage ADSL2+ provider.I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.0 -

Another thing to consider is BT's very agressive DLM & bRas IP profiling on their FTTC products.0

See your point, just paranoid about leaving some vital life-critical recipient out.
Anyway as one of the latest (but utterly cryptic) posts implies - it may not really be worth the ticket.
And now I have a i-Player compatible TV and a reasonably state of the art PVR, TIVO ain't that much an incentive...0 -

Thanks. I think it's disgusting that after downloading 5gb of data on a 30mb/s line (less than half an hour's worth of downloading assuming you're getting full speeds) and they throttle your internet connection to 7.5mbps. How they can possibly advertise that as unlimited is beyond me.
As I keep saying, if you're a high download user, slower no FUP broadband will beat superfast but highly managed broadband any day of the week. (imo)I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.0 -
If it's a problem for you take 50Mbps instead as there is no STM on that. Most ADSL I've had couldn't deliver 5GB over the course of an evening.0

Dont forget to add that on the Fibre side of DSL, the 30mb or 34mb lines even only provide that speed for mainly HTML data.....
As digging around with the likes of BT and Plusnet and Eclipse, would appear most traffic is toned down to 2mb (apart from web browsing) or less for P2P.
Plusnet offer to remove there shaping as such for an extra cost per month.....
I'll repost on the plusnet side in 5 weeks or so, as i'll be keeping tabs from day 1 of my fibre order.....0
