is washing clothes and bedding at 60 degrees hot enough to kill fleas?

You won't get rid of fleas by washing at 90 degrees because the eggs, the larvae and most of the adult fleas won't be in your clothes - http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/parasites/f/FAQ_fleacycle.htm and http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/parasites/f/FAQ_fleacontrol.htm
i know that they are mainly breeding in the carpet/crevices etc but adult fleas are all over our clothes
just wanted to know how to adequately kill the adult fleas on our clothes in the wash0 -
I can recommend this stuff for helping deal with the problem as well.

Thats the cheapest ive found it, my vet charges £25 for it :eek:0 -
My mum has total sympathy with you ( Im not tasty, so it doesnt affect me so badly !!) if you have them that badly even after treatments is it worth talking to a professional pest controller?? they will have seen it all before, and its got to be cheaper in the long run with an infestation like you sound like you have ????Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0

If the infestation is as bad as you claim, phone your local council's environmental health dept. They should either offer advice or come out and zap the blighters.
Advocate is the best flea treatment for cats.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
i have scars on my ankles from a massive flee infestation, the only way is to treat the source!! Buy some flee tablets or the stuff you squirt on the skin.
Also I bought 5 tubs of flee power from the shop and covered every floor in the house with the powder and left it on for a week.
Make sure you treat the cats with flee stuff regularly, hoover daily as well. Flee eggs can be dormant for something like two years and hatch from vibration and warm weather.0 -

unfortunately it's not up to me and my dad won't do either
can you get advocate from petshops or do you need a prescription? we had heard that frontline combo was the best?0 -
My sister had them really bad, she used quite a few cans of acclaim and still they were rife, she ended up calling council who came and did her whole house for £50, she had to stay out of the house for a few hours after but it did the trick. I know she washed all her bed linen on hot wash at the same time too, btu not all her clothes. Obviously she did treat the cat too, the vet recommended advantage to her.0

i would love to get the whole house professionally treated, i would also like to get rid of the cat, it's been nothing but trouble
unfortunately it's not up to me and my dad won't do either

I thought my flea infestation was bad...maybe not after what you have said. When spraying the house you need to go out for the day and leave it to do it's work. Don't vaccuum for a few days. You should only need to spray twice two weeks apart. Something isn't being done right if that doesn't work.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Brother had a similar problem with his cat and found some really cheap stuff did the trick (unfortunately I don't know what this was but the smell turned a house cat into a stop out cat for several weeks).Truth always poses doubts & questions.
