Buying a used car

Yes it can be done on the phone, no they don't need proof of address or a credit check (or at least I've always paid in full as my insurance isn't very high, so I've never needed one)
They will ask for the car reg, how many miles you do a year, if you need business use, where the car will be parked at night, is it modified, your no claims, which will be zero as you haven't had a policy before, and your credit or debit card details, and if you've had any claims or points in the past 5 years.
They then post your certificate out to you, but you can be covered from the moment you put the phone down.
Also some dealers give you 7 days free cover to drive the car home, then you can arrange your own cover in your own time.Yes, I have already come up with a shortlist. Is arranging insurance as a new customer something that could be done over the phone when I'm at the dealer? Does the insurance company not need proof of address, credit check, etc. before issuing a policy?
