Help: 'Guest' Computer can't connect to internet anymore!!!

Hello and thanks in advance to anyone who can give me advice on the following matter...

First of all, my computer connects through a client computer to access the internet. The client computer has zonealarm on it, it shows my guest computer ip address upon it, all seems fine...However, when using my computer (guest) no internet connection is allowed. If you go into my network connections (on the guest computer), you can see my current internet connection, however there is no icon for the 'client' computer.

I just need some ideas as what to do, as the internet had worked of both computers previously, until one day when I logged on!!! I've followed the connection wizard; all is fine till i try to run the netsup disc on the client computer, it starts telling me it can't continue due to an error.

Please give me some advice, as I don't want to pay someone a bundle of money to fix it...

Thanks

are you connecting via ethernet or wirelessly?

First port of call is to prove or disprove the connections between the PCs themselves I'd have thought.

Go to a command prompt on each and type "IPCONFIG", make a note of the IP Address on both.

Now trying pinging one from the other, at a command prompt type :

Ping <ip_address> - where <ip_address> is the address of the other computer (will be 4 sets of digits seperated by full stops)

if you get something along the lines of "no response" thats not so good, if it says "reply from xxx...." that means you have connection

    try that and post back

go into the firewall on the client computer and allow all traffic via the lan card and do the same on the guest PC

    are both Pc's XP ??

zonelarm does not work well with Networking, i had to dump it in favour of Sygate and now Kerio free which allow you to build rules to allow network traffic like this ;)

    Hello Browntoa!

Changed the firewall on both computers to Kerio, as you advised...The client computer is working fine, in fact it seems to connect to pages a little faster, however, the guest computer still can't connect to the internet!
    You also mentioned this:
"allow all traffic via the lan card and do the same on the guest PC".
I'm a bit of newbie, and still learning, is there any chance of explaining this a bit more to me please, and what settings would you prescribe for the kerio firewall???
I would have looked at the instructions that come with kerio, but for some reason my english manual is in Czech!!!
Oh, to answer your other question both computers run on xp.

Thanks in advance and for the previous post also.
