Claim on a survey? ASBESTOS!

We bought our house a year ago, and wanted to carry out a dormer on it (it's 1960's bungalow) we have ventured into the attic and under the fibreglass loft insulation is what looks like pure blue asbestos (husband been on many courses) we have sent it off to be analysed and are waiting a response. If it is the nasty stuff we have been quoted around £10,000 to have it removed, in our home buyers survey this did not show up so could we put a claim in for it or not? Fingers crossed it's not asbestos but if it is we are in trouble!

the home buyers survey does not require the surveyor to start lifting up things (carpets, insultation, etc etc) to see what is behind them so, no, you have no comeback against the surveyor

BTW hubby should know from hos courses that it's not a damger unless it is disturbed, if it's under something in an attic why not just leave it alone
  • Thats what I suspected...damn..Thing is we need to move it cause of the Dormer, pipes, wires etc. Lets hope it comes back negative then.
