Does anyone know how much it costs to have the old type of phones (ring ring and dial on the front ones) converted so that they can be used with a BT line?
Is it very difficult to do yourself?

Yes it can be done easily.
You can buy the BT type plugs with a little tool to terminate them. You only need worry about two of the wires being connected to the two outer pins on the plug, ie the red and the white wires.
