Mobile Phone with good reception qualities

I live in a rural area and the phone signal seems to be quite crap.
I have had several of the latest blackberries and several cheapie Samsung phones and all are just 'ok' at best. I have to stand in one particular space in the back yard to have a 'drop free' call.
Are there any phones out there known for good reception qualities? I know that it is down to the location, but surely there are phones designed to work better in areas of weak signal?
Thanks in advance.

Who is your network?
If its Vodafone you can get a Sure signal device. Works great at my house. Full 3g coverage0 -
Or UMA with Orange0

This is the main reason I don't have a fancy phone.
My basic Siemens A62 works in our house.
All modern phones owned by visiting friends don't.
