Heinz Soup - shrinking tins!

Appreciate this is happening with a LOT of products, with the manufacturer assuming we're all too stupid to notice but..........

Heinz Farmers' Market soup up until recently came in 515g tins, cost £1.09 in Tesco. Now the tins are 400g but cost the same!

I noticed it because the stupid supermarket had both sizes on the shelf at the same time. Could register my irritation by a) stop buying it and b) shop elsewhere. Unfortunately, as we're currently overwhelmed with this crafty method of sliding in price hikes there's not a lot of point.

Rant over - I'm off to do plan 'C', bung some veggies in a pot and make my own soup.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

    Excellent idea.

Heinz soup is pretty poor quality and loaded with salt and other nasties.

Home made soup is not only better tasting, healthier and cheaper but it is extremely easy to make.

Remember that the first few times you do it it will seem a bit of a a fag but once get the hang of it it will be easy.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • yeah should always make your own soup. I love making it - especially in winter with the winter veges. Heinz can do one on the soup front.

  • Its annoying isnt it when companies do this. I would much rather they be honest with price rises than do it via stealth
  • Yes I noticed the same but some of the varieties in the smaller tins HAD been reduced - they were just covering it by displaying it as a 'special offer'.

Whilst I agree home-made soup will generally be far superior, you may be surprised how un-nastiesful Heinz soups are
Water, Broccoli (14%), Carrots (11%), Whipping Cream, Celery (5%), Onions (4%), Leeks (4%), Peas (3%), Blue Stilton Cheese (2%), Modified Cornflour, Salt, Pepper
    for instance.

Half a can - 108 calories, not outrageous!

I've noticed this too  and the prices seem to rise as they shrink!

I always make roasted root vegetable soup:

Stew pack from Morrisons for one pound has a swede, carrots, parsnips and onions in.

    Buy two or three leeks.

Chop and cube all veg then roast in the oven for 50 mins with a little oil and herbs. Transfer to a pan and fill with water up to the top of the veg. Crush a few stock cubes and stir then leave to simmer until all the veg is soft then use a hand blender to make smooth.
