Disabled parking

I have just recieved a ticket for parking in a disabled bay. Before you all scream, I am disabled. My blue badge was 7 days over the renewal date. I was late applying for a renewal due to illness. I had asked a local (council) warden as regards parking and I was told that they make allowances for 2 weeks overdue before issuing a ticket. She went on to say that after that a ticket would be issued but would probably win an appeal.
With this in mind I went shopping only to return to my vehicle 20 minutes later to find a ticket. It seems that this was a private out of town shopping car park. I wrote to the company explaining the situation and the fact that there is a 4 to 6 week backlog for issuing badges. The reply was that they did not believe that they were unreasonable or unjust.
I could have parked free for 2 hours in another bay but I need the extra room to open my door fully.

Could you tell us the name of the parking company please. We like to name and shame on here. As this was private land the BB scheme does not apply anyway. So just ignore these clowns from now on, and cease all contact with them. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

In a private car park the blue badge scheme does not apply.
You are disabled therefore you are entitled to use the disabled space -end of.
Ignore the private parking company , they can not penalise you for this.
Although they will write all sorts of threatening letters they would not dare take a genuine disabled driver to court on this as they would be in breach of The Equality Act ..
IGNORE them.
Please post the name of the company for info tho.0 -
At the moment that is the way I feel. I cannot afford the charge on incappacity benefit. Now due to the back log I am confined to my home for a month or more. Good job "er indoors" does most of the shopping.0

Sorry. I did edit to include the name but it did not register. The company is UKPC UK parking control Ltd.0

Excellent ! It may be of interest to you to know that this company has to defend criminal charges brought by Trading Standards at Hull Crown Court on 5th September.
Whilst one must not ever pre-judge one can but wonder how on earth they got themselves in that position !0 -
Where do I stand legally. I can have free parking for 2 hours IF I get a ticket from the machine. I did not as being disabled that would incur stress as the disabled bays are away from the machines. But my BB was not valid at the time due to a delay in issuing the new one.0

Read the info that came with your BB. It states that the BB scheme does not apply on private car parks. Disabled bays on private car parks are available to any disabled person, BB or not.

A disabled bay in a private car park has nothing to do with Blue Badges.
It is a reasonable adjustment for disabled persons which the landowner must provide by law ...in law a disabled person is entitled to use the bay. That is ANY disabled person as defined in law ..forget about blue badges.
The relevant law is The Equality Act ..this is statute law and totally overrides any made up rules of contract that the car park owner and UKPC try to impose.
So legally you are on solid ground ..they don't have a leg to stand on !!0 -
But then wouldn't I be failing by not having a valid ticket from the machine.
I have just re-read the NTO and it says "Parked in a disabled person's space without clearly displaying a valid disabled person's badge." So I assume I am in the clear.?0
