Real Player won't launch in XP

It will not be roused in Windows XP Home, although Real Player Downloader does appear when playing Utube videos. The resulting download, however, will also not play. I've scanned it with Malwarebytes and Trend but it's clean. I cannot see what version it is but it was created on 23.1.11.
I was wondering if this looked untoward, especially Page File 1.55GB.

Re-install Real Player

Use the download helper add on for Firefox

Use youtubedownloader

Install VLC player and try it with the ones you already have downloaded from youtube

Before doing all that I tried a restart. I found that half a dozen programmes had to be ended by Windows individually.
Real Player started OK afterwards and things ran normally (i.e. slowly!) It's a N450 atom 1.66 Ghz processor with 1 GB of RAM.
I'm now going to follow the instructions in the sticky for slow running . Thanks for taking the time to answer, though.
