Timing of listings?

Ive got a few bits and peices from the house i am going to list tommorrow sometime.

Just want opinions as to what the best time is to start my listings off or does it not really make any difference?

  • I'd say afternoon as assuming you're doing a 7 day listing, then you want as many people as possible to be around on next Sunday afternoon to make last minute bids on your items. Most people don't get up early on Sunday...just me because I'm a freak!!

I would list the items for 7-days, starting tonight. I've found the best time for auctions to finish is Sunday evenings, when there are most buyers - especially if the weather's been bad that day.

I never have auctions end in the afternoon- instead always around 7/8pm.

I would have thought people are far more likely to be at home. A lot of people go for a 10 day auction, starting on Thursday, so it covers two weekends, ending on the second Sunday.

I tend to go with that unless its a really popular item that will sell well irrespective, like a computer game or popular dvd box set. Often I put them as 1 day or 3 day auctions.
  • Kriss_boy, I do ensure that listings ending on a weekday end in the evening/early night, ie 7-9pm as well to ensure that people are able to bid, ie not tied up at work. I also used to do the Thursday-start 10 day listings but sometimes having a big clearout means I don't have the time to sit there and list everything I want to in one day and I prefer to try and have something ending every day to keep people interested. I have had a few repeat buyers.

Well a trick I do, but I think ebay are becoming wise to it, is to list 20 things in quick succession, simply giving it a blank title and description. One by one at around 7pm.

Then the next day you can go through them when you have time and one by one you can edit them to be proper listings with pictures and descriptions.

That way you get your thursday night slot without having to pay for scheduled listings.

Or easier, use the scheduling for a week in advance, then list day by day and you are not charged.

Auction items I have finishing Sun-Thurs nights between 7-9.30 and try to fit them in around the soaps. I never have auction items ending on Fri/Sat nights as lots of people are out.

I list the odd item to end during the daytime, incase someone is using "local bargain finder" or thinks that cos it ends in the afternoon then it'll be cheap lol.

However, I'm not doing any auction items at the minute while "Celebrity" Big Bro is on.
