Dominican Republic

Hi, I am thinking about going to DR next year. We have just come back from Mexico and loved the beach at the Riviera Maya, mainly as it had quite big waves, and we are looking for something similar. Has anyone been to Puerto Plata on the north coast or Punta Cana on the east coast? Thanks for any advice you can give.

    Hi,

I have been to punta Cana and I am desperate to go back, lol

You mentioned waves so are you into surfing? I dont recall seeing anyone surfing but that could have been due to the time of year??? Also the sea was reasonably calm, puerto plata could be different though. I stayed at 2 hotels, one was the vik arena which I wouldn't want my enemy to stay in, and the hard rock, the hard rock was amazing beyond belief! I do not drink alcohol but the in room bar left me speechless, lol

Hi Hoxton, no we're not into surfing we just like waves that knock you about a bit:D. Thanks for the info about Punta Cana though.
  • Oh I see, well if it's just getting swished around a bit then you should be fine, although I hear the sea around cape verde has big waves so you may look into going there?

Hi If you want a very nice hotel in punta Cana look at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro this place is fantastic
  • I stayed in Punta Cana a couple of years ago... don't recall big waves but the sea is gorgeous and you can snorkel... I stayed at Sirenis Tropical Suites which was lovely.

I've been to Puerto Plata twice at different times of the year and the sea was always pleasant and calm.
