    Morning :)

Thanks for the info last night. I still can't switch the laptop on, just keeps cutting off straight away :( I'll try and get a caddy either today or tomorrow and take off the pics that way if possible. Here's hoping, lol.

fenlander - saying I 'shoved it back in' was just a term I used, lol, I did do it very gently.

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated :)

I wonder is son's not admitting it was dropped then ;) , takes a fair whack to knock the hard drive offf

then again I have seen several Toshibas with failed Motherboards and failed hard drives lately , from the description it MAY be the latter but that does not mean you will not get the data off, purely that the OS is corrupt

  • If you have an external hard drive (2.5") then you can actually take that apart and use the mechanisms inside for attaching the hard drive that you want inside there. All of the PCB is exposed but its saved me numerous times. I'm sure there are already some of these available on eBuyer? Search for 'Hard Disk Reader'. Ideally though all important documents should be backed up on a separate medium

Agree, don't do anything until you've plugged the hard drive into a caddy to try to transfer files to another PC.

Certainly don' t try doing a reformat and reload until you've got the files backed up.
