N Power overcharge 2007/8 - too late to reclaim??
Hi All,
I have just been looking at the Gas and Elec pages and noticed a billing error to N Power Gas accounts in 2007/8. I first moved into my house in November 2007 and was really surprised with my first bill. I queried this at the time but was told it was correct and had to pay.
Now after seeing this i have found the bill and worked out the overcharge i believe it to be. (Its about £30). Its not a massive overcharge but if im entitled to money back i sure as hell aint leaving it in their pockets. I have emailed their customer service today but want to know if its now too late or if there is another way i should be asking N Power to look into it.
Any feedback appreciated!
Thanks

Hi All,

What error mechanism have you noticed.
I recall a problem a few years back with NPower billing concerning the way they calculated seasonal weighting of primary units. If I recall correctly they were fined and instructed to make refunds.
Described here...

Well if you look at the first unit charges which is higher than the rest i have calculated an overcharge. I worked it out as the first 4700(ish) devided by 365 days x the number of days i was been billed for. That should have come to about 500 first unit charges and i was billed for double that. Like i say not a huge overcharge but i want money back if its their fault.
I saw a thread earlier (new to this site) about their incorrect first unit charges around the time i thought i was paying too much. I wish i had worked it to the penny now but it was my first bill in my first house and didnt question it.0 -
You can pursue a debt for 6 years, so yes.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I first moved into my house in November 2007….
On 1st May 2007 and then on 1st November 2007 Npower made clandestine changes to its billing methodology with the result that affected customers were deliberately overcharged.
Who is an affected customer? Any npower domestic gas customer who was on a two tier tariff in any continuous period of 12 months or more that includes at least one of the above dates of 1st May 2007 and 1st November 2007.
As you did not move into your house until after 1st November 2007, neither of these changes will have affected you. If you have correctly calculated that you have been overcharged, I can only imagine that there is some other cause.
In late 2010, Consumer Focus obliged Npower to agree to repay approximately £70 million to its affected customers. I understand that there may be as much as £20 million as yet unclaimed.
For the benefit of anyone reading this who may be an affected customer, and who has not been compensated, here is a quote from near the end of the thread on the subject, that should take you to it.
As npower are contacting past and present customers during November and we don't want anyone to miss the news I'm bumping this thread back to where it belongs on the first page.

Wow...People are still claiming from that? I had no idea lol.
Yeah, I can confirm that the gas overpayment system is still running...Call the number on your bill and we'll do the rest. Back when this first happened a whole new department opened up to sort it out, they're still there now0
