I think you've taken that a little bit too generally. I meant with regards to the topic at hand.

Matty, in answer to your original question see here for the maximum operating temps of CPUs.

    http://www.heatsink-guide.com/content.php?content=maxtemp.shtml

According to this the max temp for your CPU is 85C. I have an Athlon XP2500+ and it is currently running at 57C so yours does not sound that hot. It may still be worth improving the cooling as the temperature reporting on AMD CPUs is not very accurate according to that website so it could be under reading.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I really do not think the heat of this is your problem if its just hitting 63c.
When athlon 64s came in people started to get used to really low temperatures, as this is an older computer you will get these warmer temperatures. Try running your pc with the case off, it will give you a good suggestion if it is the heat.

Its an old pc, and you will get it periodically giving you the blue screen of doom, I would say a reinstall of your operating system is your first port of call. HSF would be about my 4th choice.

hang on a moment, I dont go around telling YOU that your cars temperature gauge is incorrect do I? No thats because I cant see your car or make of gauges or how much antifreeze you have in it, just like the same as you cant see my PCs setup nor my fan or other components so stop second guessing.
  • I got my temp down to 48 degrees with iTunes, Messenger, firewall and antivirus running and in use together.

When I removed the heatsink, there was a THICK layer of dust down the gaps! haha.

    Many thanks everyone :)
