Village fete - glass jar painting stall

I'm not sure if this is the right place but hopefully you can help. I've been volunteered to run the glass jar painting stall at a local fete. Aside from collecting lots of jars I haven't a clue what I need, what sorts of paints, should I provide pinnies, presumably lots of newspaper etc etc
Can anyone advise please - where do I get the paint from for a start?
Thanks!

999 on speed dial, kids and glass can be a dangerous combination. Who ran it last year, can't they tell you what you need ?.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks. It didn't happen last year here but it's been seen at other fetes and the children really enjoyed it. I wondered about the danger but that didn't seem to be a problem and certainly no-one got hurt. It seems the jars were painted then left at the stand and taken home right at the end.
Have been surfing and the glass paints seem to be pretty expensive, we'll be doing it for free so really need to keep costs down.

No idea, but I'm sure it was properly done as it was a big do. Ours will be on grass so the risk of breakages will be minimised, as I said, this other event had no problems. It seems a common enough thing to do from what I've read at such events.
Possibly plastic jars would be better but goodness only knows what sort of paint I'd need. More surfing needed.0 -

I would suggest hoarding plastic egg-boxes for use as disposable paint palettes, and old long-sleeved men's shirts for use as aprons.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Do you have a budget or anyone you can phone connected to the fete and ask for some local advice as it sounds to me as though you've been thrown in the deep end

I'd imagine this was quite expensive to do although the first link says glass paints are good value.
The second link has glass paints at £1.89 for a little pot, but they are the end of the line so may have to purchase before they run out. You may be able to get it cheaper.....eBay or similar.0 -
seen it once at a fete and basically they had glass jars. the child then chose a design from loads of sheets of paper and the stall lady stuck it inside the jar then drew it on outside with some like outline paste(liquid lead)? on to the jar. The child then used glass paint to fill in the spaces.
All i did notice was that there was quite a few dropped in car park on leaving.
The best kids stall i ever saw, that was most enjoyed by the children was cake decorating. They had small cup cakes which were a £1.00 each and child could decorate it free.0 -
I have done glass painting in the past as a hobby - and would not allow any child under about 10 to do it!
What you can do though is Paint on those clear plastic glasses (disposable) or on circles of acetate to make suncatchers! this would require a bit of prep from you and a large drying area but would be cheaper, safer and you could possibly make more money on your stall.
If you are interested let me know and I will either PM you the details or post them on here!0
