Well you would say that wouldn't you ?. If you are likely to make your livelihood in web design of course you would rather people employ you to produce a site than DIY . - I feel the same however your prejudice against Frontpage is irrational but all too common- All programs have their limitations but I know of very experienced professional web designers who use it . I do too.

You can still produce a naff site with the most expensive Dreamweaver or a decent site with free software such as Nvu- it's the what works that counts and good basic web design is not only about how much you spend -

I hardly think that's fair. This is a web design student, there is no monetary benefit to him/her for reccommending the OP steers clear of web design packages. I studied web design myself, I'm not a web designer, I went into telecoms, and yet I still wouldn't touch mr site etc with a barge pole. It's a rip off.

You can get great hosting for less than £3 a month with 100GB bandwidth. You can build a site using templates (you can get decent ones) or with simple HTML (which you can learn in a matter of hours).

As I said, the criticism of Frontpage is irrational - as a student of web design you and he/she will surely know that it isn't comparable to Mr Site - FP is a webdesign program not an all-in take it or leave it - "package" - They are not the same - it's simply misleading and inaccurate to imply that they are.

This will be my last post on this subject it’s getting to silly. Mr Site works for people who just need a simple web site – or if you have the time a more complex one. It has great tech support for those mere mortals who would take more than a “matter of hours” to learn html. “You can get great hosting for less than £3 a month” Am I missing something here Mr Site works out at just over £2.00 for the first year (including your domain name) and £2.49 after that.

Just check out the examples and if you can do better for the same price post your sites so we can check it out. And once again Mr Site uses templates.

I came across a fantastic host in my travels, so good that I dumped one of my VPS accounts and moved all of my personal websites onto an account with them.

They provide 250GBS of disc space, you'll virtually never need to delete any photos again, and you also get 2100GBS of bandwidth per month (70GBS per day) with legal adult hosting allowed, on a clustered service which means your website is on a collection of servers, that means if one server or two servers go down, your website remains accessible while they're restoring the broken server(s).

They have a new application called webdrive which you can use to back up your data onto their servers with and although this is not encrypted, it is secure as you can place it in non-web accessible folders.

They'll host unlimited domains for you for the fee and the price includes a domain name of your choosing be it the main extentions a UK or an EU extention. The hosting is compatible with country code domains also (I host .tk and .vg sites with no problem). It's completely flexible and so easy to use.

They can be found at http://www.servage.net/

If you're planning on signing up with them you can also use the following link to boost your allowed disc space to 275GBS http://www.servage.net/?coupon=cust26398

I forgot to mention, they also increase the disc space on a daily basis based on customer loyalty, in much the same way that Google do with their Gmail product and their support desk technicians are first rate and usually reply within 3hrs, IF the extensive online documentation doesn't answer your queries.

One last thing, they have a virtual one click access for installing all manner of applications such as forums, galleries, blogs, ecommerce and so on.

Also there is a superb website for templates which are easy to modify and customise, the best thing of all if that they are completely free as long as you give credit to the author for his/her work.

That site is http://oswd.org some lovely designs on that page, there are some very talented designers out there helping those of us who are challenged.

For a web-site building program I would recommend using pMachine Pro, available from http://pmachine.com. It is a highly customisable blogging/publishing software which once set up is magnificently easy to run, use and skin using templates from the Open Source Website I have linked to in the last paragraph, simply add a couple of tags and away you go, I've just taught my friends 16yr old kid, who has no web-programming experience how to use it. In less than 4hours they had a fully functional website and blog running.

pMachine Pro is of course free, with free support available in the pMachine forums. Users should be aware though that this software is no longer in development as the pMachine people are concentrating completely on development of their paid for software, Expression Engine. I have not trialled or tested this paid-for software at all so cannot recommend it I'm afraid.

Hope this helps someone out there!
