which new radiator for lounge?

We need to replace our 2 existing radiators with 1 single one under the window (the current ones are in stupid places, making the room very hard to furnish). The size of the new one will have to be about 600 x 1800 or 600 x 2000 according to the heating engineer.

He sent me a link for Stelrad radiators who do a flat panel that he says looks nice, but is pricey. He has quoted for a Purmo (which is what we have already).

Does anyone have any recommendations for efficient, not too pricey and really nice looking radiators? The flat is quite modern looking inside but is in a period building - high cathedral ceilings etc so we want to be warm and for it to look good. The purmo looks ok but something thinner and more contemporary would be better if possible.

thanks for any thoughts including suppliers as think we have to buy the radiator and pay him for the installation.

  • We're extending a cottage we've just bought and are also looking at radiators. We've never used this firm but there's a large selection of styles/sizes here: http://www.traderadiators.com/.

Any regular radiator painted an interesting colour can look modern and be a feature. I have some red painted ones against a white wall, which are otherwise just plain ordinary radiators from the 1970s and people always comment on how good they look.

Also, if you don't already have them, this is a great chance to install thermostatic valves which make it far easier to control the room temperature.
