SO moved in. Signed 6mth contract - it was then a rolling contract.

I move in, added to contract.

A month later, they remove the wall to gain access to the waste pipe.

4mths later, it's still there with no progression due to council taking their time

SO and I want to move now, thinking we were on a rolling month contract, but apparently we have to give 2 mths

So, you are 5 months into a 6 month contract. As people here have said - you can leave at the end of the fixed contract without giving any notice at all (no matter what it says in the contract).

You must not go over the fixed term or you will create a new rolling contract. It is of course polite to tell your landlord you are leaving at the end of the fixed term. If your deposit is protected in a scheme then they will know the law and your landlord won't be able to get extra rent from you.

This really is still not clear. You say "I move in, added to contract. "
But I suspect you mean a new tenancy agreement, with a 6 month term, with both your names, was signed. Yes?

And as Gauly says this appears to be 5 months ago. What was the date on this contract?

It ends in one month, so you move out. What's the problem?
