car insurance quotes - not very competitive!

I am currently with Direct Line, have been with them for 14 years. Thought I'd try comparethemarket to see if I can get a better deal this time but the cheapest it finds is £10 more than Direct Line are offering me.
Quite surprised, last year I had to haggle with Direct Line as I was going to switch to a cheaper one.

Direct line has ALWAYS been more expensive for me.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0

Many years ago Direct Line offered very competitive prices but once they established a large customer base their prices soared. I laugh every time I hear their TV adverts claim ''You'll never see us on a price comparison website''. That's because they are so expensive that they will never get any business.
I have just taken out motor insurance with Saga @ £288 but Direct Line wanted £465. The only other competitive quotes were LV= @ £287 (renewal price) and Aviva @ around £317. One obscure company quoted £1,500.0 -

Just had my car renewal through from Direct Line, it has gone up nearly 15% from £220 last year to £250 this year, going on the comparison sites I cannot get it any cheaper anywhere else.0

After going through the comparison sites I thought I'd check out Direct Line and Aviva.
My current insurer Co-op = £324 inc breakdown (up £40 on last year) - Direct Line quoted £384 and Aviva quoted £407!
Like you say, no wonder they don't use the comparison sites!0 -
