Getting cat hair off the soft cotton bedding?

Sigh....

Got this lovely duver cover set, satin (fake) on the outside, soft cotton on the inside - if that makes sense?

Anyway, took it off to wash and taking out of the washing machine and hanging to dry saw the cotton parts are completely covered in fluff, I mean fluffballs/hair etc absolutely covered.

Lintrolls (however one spells it) aill take some of that off but still - what is the piont of washing the bedding when it looks worse after the wash than before?

:(

Love my cats but I am not allowd to let them in my bedroom (doctor's orders, recent diagnosis with sleep apnea and having to use a face mask while sleeping so no cats in the bedroom as the mask/machine can get blocked with cat hair etc) so really shocked at the amount of hair/fluff on the bedding... this was a brand new set from a packed, had it on for just one week nice and clean and now...

sigh....

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cats were not even in that room :(

Dare I suggest (not MSE at all!) tumble drier if you have one.

With 3 giant breed dogs I have found the only way to get dog hair cleared off the bedding or anything where it has stuck badly is to chuck it in the tumble drier for a while. It fills the filter up quick time but it gets it off.

Failing that, a rubber glove may do the trick.

  • A damp rubber glove, or those lint catcher ball things. They're cheaper here than mine were from Lakeland!

Just a thought, but are you sure it's definitely cat hair? It's just you say it's a brand new bedding set and the cats aren't in the bedroom so it could be possible that it's fibres off the soft cotton rubbing off while you're in bed. Did you wash the bedding before you used it?

Edit: just another thought :D You say it was covered with the hair after you took it out of the machine, is it possible there were hairs around the drum and they've transferred to the bedding? I've done that before, I washed the dogs bedding and forgot to give the empty machine a rinse afterwards, the next load of washing I did was covered in hair when I took it out. When my cat & dog are moulting (it's all over at the moment, clothes, furniture etc) I always give the washing machine drum a quick wipe before I put a new load in, it's actually quite surprising how much hair can be in there.

I second the recommendation about the tumble drier. I use the cool setting, and a couple of little tumble drier balls. It's basically being used not to dry, but as an automated carpet (or bedsheet) beater!

Thanks for this post - I have always had a nightmare with cat hair and annoying bobbles of fur all over my bedding after it has been washed - am hoping the lint catchers will be the answer :) I normally spend ages with one of those sticky lint rollers or sticky tape trying to pick up all the hair. Luckily I do have a tumble dryer but according to some websites you can use the lint catching balls in the washing machine as well.

I normally use "satin" bedding and just shake it off, this one though turned up to be "satin" on the outside and cotton on the inside... did not know that when buying - still fighting those furballs.....

3 out of 4 out - Fred, George and Teddy. I was shocked when Teddy decided to go out, she normally holds on to the front door for dear life, today he surprised me.

Chloe is somehere indoors, got a bit of bite/scratch(?) on her foot so not going out.

Zara has been out and flat out ofn the floor now.

Satin it will be from now on, can not deal with cottor - and it is such a lovelyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bedding. Matches the crazy PINK (yeah I know) walls of my daughter's room where I moved in since she moved out.. made it nice for myslef (leavign the bigger bedroom for cats and dog - me mad, I know) but can not cope with that hairballs getting everywhere. And with the machine I have to use at nights - simply can not have it...

    Shave them all?
