Problem with £100 Netgear Skype phone help pls

I wonder if anyone can advise?

I bought a Netgear Skype/wireless home phone from Amazon.co.uk approx 2.5 years ago. It cost £100. Over the past few months the Skype component has started to fail (cannot connect properly, logs out of my Skype login regularly by itself, various other issues). I contacted Netgear and went through all this with them and after a lengthy discussion they concluded that it is a hardware issue with the phones but since it is out of their warranty they have said it is just tough luck.

Obviously the phones are not new but I don't expect a £100 phone to stop working after 2.5 years. I bought it through Amazon (it had good reviews at the time but they have now soured somewhat). What I want to know is whether there is any kind of guarantee I can use against either Netgear or Amazon to either get a refund or a replacement and if not is there any follow up I can make to Netgear as their customer service was rubbish as well (took ages to respond, broken English etc)?

Thanks.
