Car Insurance- No Claims gone from 11 years to 0

I had to claim on the car insurance after my car door swung open whilst parked and hit another car travelling past.

In September last year when I took out the policy I had 11 years no claims. Just had the renewal and they have taken all years no claims off me.

I was expecting some kind of increase but I was always under the impression I would lose a percentage of the NC discount not all of it.

Any advice would be helpful.

I may be wrong because mine is protected and I've never had a fault accident/claim but I would have thought the clue is in the title i.e. 'no' claims rather than 'not very many' claims.

    Happy to stand corrected though

losing two years per claim is normal, but that doesn't mean you'll drop to nine as most insurance companies have a max NCB of 4/5/6 years so you should end up with 2/3/4 years once it's sorted out.

Your policy will have all the details you need so read that and then ring them once you know the facts

Normally after a single claim no discount is awarded for the current year, and you "lose" 2 years fron the max (usually 5) at renewal.

So the worst should be you have 3 years at renewal.

Check your policy for how your company deals with NCD after a claim, and if it is in line with this, get on to them!

What does your insurer say about the scale of the reduction (which is unusual as mentioned above)?
