How should i decorate my daughter's room?

Daughter is getting her own room. She wants the walls to be painted magnolia.
Relatives had their walls skimmed and then painted. Over the years some had hairline cracks which looks awful and needed attention.
My house is old so has the usual imperfections on the walls. My plan is to strip existing wallpaper (which is in poor condition), fill any imperfections with polyfiller and then sand the walls.
Thinking of putting a plain or embossed wallpaper and paint over it.
I have the following questions :-
1. As far as i know you can paint over embossed wallpaper and also there are different designs to choose from. Can you also paint over plain wallpaper?
2. Do you need to use lining paper underneath the wallpaper? I think the thickness of the embossed wallpaper will cover any impefections itself.
3. What type shall i use over the wallpaper? Matt, silk etc? Non-drip? etc
Where is the best place to get wallpaper and paint when on a budget.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

1. Plain wallpaper may have a sheen or sized finish and not take paint well. If you wanted to paint over plain wallpaper you'd use lining paper hung vertically.
2. Not usually for embossed wallpaper.
3. Matt or eggshell probably. Non-drip usually refers to gloss.
How old is daughter as that might affect recommendations?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

She will be 16. She has chosen the colour scheme etc. Originally wanted all but one walls to be white and the remaining black.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

homebase do embosed paper ,
you can use any emulsion on embossed paper , matt , silk or soft sheen ..... not eggshell , that is for woodwork not walls, mix a drop of water to the first coat . a cupfull per 2 1/2 ltrs
remember when hanging embossed paper to let it soak for the reccommended time before hanging , usually 5-6 minutes per sheet0 -
we lived and redecorated an old vicarage. Found a good solution for th walls was a heavy grade lining paper (from decorator supplies rather than b&Q) then paint. worked a treat.
Used this for ceilings as well0 -

We did the same thing. Lining works a treat on 'bad walls'.I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.0
