Definitely easier to go with one of the local products now that the prices have dropped.

yes, its a 2nd hand one, but the shop is very strict when they buy, and have a returns policy. The superpad would have been coming either from ebay or chinagrabber, neither of which i was that comfortable with.

I think im going to visit currys or pcworld and get my hands on one, then see if the shop will take a deposit on the one i want, then my mum can go in, pay the rest and collect it :D

Having a quick look, the main options for £150ish budget are the Archos 101 (http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/ARCHOS-101-INTERNET-TABLET), Hanspree Hannspad, and one of the Viewsonics if you're lucky.

All things considered, I'd go with the Advent Vega out of that bunch even if it was new. Once you put Modaco on, you'll have the same access to spreadsheet programs as any android tablet would.

Why do you say in the OP that the speed will decline with time?

it is a lower spec one, hence the low price. Im not wanting something all singing and dancing, games dont really interest me (!!!!!! is angry birds? never heard of it before!), I just want wifi and some sort of spreadsheet

angry birds is a game and a fun 1 at that, you get given some birds and you have to catapult them towards a structure to knock it down to free the trapped birds

yea i plan to add the mods to have access to the market :j

well just from experience, my laptop is now a year old and is much slower than when new, thought this was the norm?

My laptop is two years old, and much faster than when it was new :)

To be fair, it was one of the few that came with Vista - so reinstalled with a clean copy of Windows 7 64bit & without all the brand-specific junkware.

Keep it light (as in don't have too much running at startup) and it'll stay speedy.
  • you can't got far wrong with the vega, the modaco stuff is really easy to do to get basic market access and there's a crack team on there getting android 3.2 working on the vega too, a top device for the money. It's only downside is the screen has terrible viewing angles and can be a touch temperamental when the chargers plugged in to the mains. Be careful with it though, i've found out the hard way that the screen glass isn't very durable, theres been occurances of it breaking from being knocked off a sofa on to carpet.

I think the hansspad price drop has lead to a sudden take up of users who are all starting to tinker, there's also the andypads due out in 12 days, nice and cheap 7 inch tablets but again theres no market from the shelf

i'll be very carefull! will have to keep it on my desk away from the mutts. im not too bothered about the viewing angles, my laptop isnt fantastic for that either, so im used to that :)

the hansspad looks ok, but kinda got my heart set on the vega now :o, as for the andypads - i want at least a 9.7" screen, my eyesight is awful!

Now got an agonising 2 and a bit week wait, unless i can pursuade her to let me have it early ;)

  • I hope you enjoy it :-)

After a dodgy start with mine, I now use my tablet more than my laptop! (I have a Acer iconia) I like it anyway!

You should try angry birds - its free, so no loss whatsoever if you loathe it!
