Can anyone advise? I got in money bother about 10 yrs ago with my old bank Halifax. I had a current account, credit card, savings acc etc but I was young and stupid and just built up debt and couldn't pay it off. Anyway, I never closed the accounts myself but I did changed my bank to avoid payment and never contacted Halifax again. I have now sorted my debts and are paying them off slowly. Today a relative has loaned me a small amount of money. It was due to go into my bank account but didn't realise that they still had my old acc details. Like I say I last used these about 8 yrs ago or there abouts, my question is, will my relative be able to retrieve this money. I'm worried that if it was never closed then they might take the money and use it to pay towards any outstanding balance that was still on there? Pls advise me as I'm worried. My relative says it will be fine and not to worry they'll sort it later but I'm worried sick they won't be able to get their money back now??? Hope this makes sense

Chances are, after all this time it's been written off, sold to a debt collector and closed. If this is the case, the payment should reject and be sent back. Or if it's cash at a branch, the deposit will be refused.
However, if the account is still active, and the payment been sent there, you're stuffed. The relative can't recall the payment or have the transaction reversed.Santander - usted puede silbar para su dinero0 -
Why should the relative worry - its OP that has to pay it back anyway!0
