What's the best bank account with a card for my 13 year old?

Unless there's going to be a decent balance in there, I'd suggest the one provided by the most convenient bank with an ATM.

Santander will give you the best rate, but have a poor service reputation.

Lloyds TSB will give you a decent rate but don't allow web access.

Halifax will give you an OK rate but provide internet access to manage the account.

    I would recommend the HSBC MyAccount - http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/under18s .
I had this until last year when I was upgraded to the normal account and had no problems with it.

Santander have a great rate and their customer service has got a lot better. She would get a visa debit card and 5% interest. Online banking and telephone banking is also available.

A step backwards in my opinion, why the 16 year age limit I don't know. These kids are more computer savy than us now a days. A bullet in the foot for Lloyds I feel.

I didn't think any banks had limits?
I had online banking with HSBC when I was 12/13!

best advice i can give him is to ignore this lie that we have to live in a brick box. and ignore people who say they know what they are doing, then buy a matress and stuff all his money in there, because somewhere along the line the banks will rip him off.

also grow your hair long and smoke spliffs an grow your own cabbages

I would recommend Halifax purely out of personal experience, I had mine from a very young age and it has grown with me - now on my third different account with Halifax - throughout the years, never with any problems!

Thanks for all your info will give Santander a try since been recommended a few times. Not sure if he will bother with the mattress option lol although have to agree most of the banks do rip you off somewhere along the way !!::(
