Too Old to Travel

Why is it that though we are now expected to be healthy enough to work on indefinitely when it comes to travel insurance anyone over 65 finds that either companies won't insure them or the amount charged is a rip-off. In the last week I've been given quotes of up to nearly £200 just because I'm 66, the cheapest I've found was £62 but the excess was high and the cover for cancellation, baggage etc very low. People in my age group are now really only considered to be late middle age but no one has told the insurance companies.

My parents swear by Saga's annual travel insurance...but actually £62 seems relatively cheap to me (as a 43 year old with a pre-existing condition). Unfortunately, any form of additional risk is expensive...and age is an additional risk

My mum and stepdad have cover through their bank and they are well into their 70's. All pre-existing conditions disclosed as well - worth a try?0

Thanks, I'll try both. Just a point, I thought the £62 cheap until I checked the what it covered, the amounts covered, which where extremely low and the excess quoted.0

I saw/heard something about this on the telly in the past week when I wasn't watching it ... if you know what I mean; it was on in the room I was in. Some bloke saying about an insurance policy that's affordable for people of any age (he said to 99).... it was some short newsy piece about rip off travel insurance. Obviously though, I can't remember what company, or which programme
So that's not very helpful is it, except you know ... it's out there. 0 -

sorry didnt realise that
If you can't even post in the right place, then I don't think I'd trust your company to do proper due dillegence.
Yes I know the "be nice to newbies" bit, but I don't think it's applies to companies or professionals that can't be bothered to check out the rules.0 -
Well at least he apologised, you want to get over yourself a bit !0

I'm not sure what you mean by "get over yourself".
We get totally fed up by people spamming the boards.
If it's an amateur who apologises then fair enough, but a professional should know better than to advertise without permission.
I don't think I have anything to "get over".0
