stupid me... "value at risk" form

hello,

i am after some advice, any help would be much appreciated. i am making a claim with esure for two bikes after our bike carrier broke and the bikes got mangled falling off the car. so far so good. they sent a "contents checklist" for me to fill in (actually, they sent someone else's completed one first, which i still have, which may be useful?) and i foolishly, in hindsight, filled it out honestly and returned it. they have now written saying i'm underinsured and asked me to fill in a "witness statement" which they tell me is "a police document" explaining why i am underinsured.

the amount of contents cover we had when we took out the policy (7th october 2007) was 15500. my new estimate was 18730. whilst i realise the small print says we have to inform them every time anything changes (if we buy a new dishcloth, i assume), my argument in my reply is that we have had 2 new kids since then and the change in contents is mainly kid clothes, beds, sterilisers, pushchairs etc (which it almost entriely is!) and we've been too busy to remember to tell them.

so what are my chances, do you reckon?

thanks in advance,

simon

    Almost certainly.
But nothing to do with the complaint.

If you don't complain, you will have anything from

the claim being made by you, and esure paying out.
the claim being made by you, and esure refusing to pay as you are under-insured.
(Either will result in an increase due to having a claim)

the claim being made by you, esure not paying, and cancelling your policy from inception.
(You'll then have to declare this, and pay a premium for being out of mainstream insurance)

The sum insured should be index linked according to esures policy, so ask them why £15500 in 2007 is so badly under-insured compared to £18730 in 2011 first though.

the OPs argument in reply that they were too busy with kids to remember to insure themselves properly is not a great argument however..!
  • You have my sympathy, see my post on Esure on under insured thread!
Load of rubbish how they work it out and myself, and nobody else realises this until you try and claim!
Take my advive, ditch Esure and arrange a policy with a bigger reputable company!
I wouldn't even insure my cat with them if i had one!!!
Money does not bring happiness...but if you are already happy it does bloody help! :rotfl:
