my tortie is mental...she's the sweetest little puss with me, loves cuddles and is super soppy, following me round and purring...but as soon as she sees another cat she completely changes!!! she's constatly chasing other cats away from the garden, and sits in front of her cat flap inside, looking out incase other cats try and get in!! I worry about her but she seems to be taking care of herself quite well!!!

I'd love to get another rescue cat, but would fear for its safety!!!

My cat is exactly like that, and I tried to get another rescue cat, but he absolutely hated it, he bullied her all weekend, and in the end we had to take her back to the rescue for her own safety:(

Our Lily is just like this too, I don't think we'll ever be able to add another fur baby to our family unfortunately! I think its's just their personalities really. I swear Lily needs an ASBO!

And about denying cats their natural behaviour, us humans did that when we domesticated them. We brought them out of the wild and into our homes, bred them selectively, tamed them and toned down a lot of their natural behaviour

    Actually cats are self-domesticated :)

My Daisy is an indoor cat. She's spent most of her short life to date indoors & locked in her pen in the ASSISI.She doesn't get on with other cats & she's quite happy to be indoors.Indeed she got out once, went as far as the open front door to the block (I'm in an upstairs appartment) took one look outside & went scampering back in.

How do you know she is happy? Would you be happy locked in a house all day? It must be so boring for them. Of course she was frightened when you opened the door, it's strange territory.
Cats are predators and should never be confined to a house, it's really cruel and if you don't want a cat who is free to act like a cat don't get one at all. I hate the way this indoor cat thing has taken off, even a dog gets taken for a walk every day.

I'm going to start a new thread for the indoor vs outdoor cat debate, as it seems to creep up in lots of threads, and I am as guilty as anyone for going OT about it :o
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Personally I would rather my cat be a bit bored sometimes than end up writhing in agony after being poisoned, or left smashed up & dying by the side of the road. Its very simple to learn a cat to use a harness, it took two attempts to train mine, and now he can go round the garden either with or without me, but safely. He's out for several hours each night, which I think is plenty, and I dont have to worry about him getting run over again, as he had been when I adopted him from the RSPCA two years ago.
