are there any banks in north london that have coin counting machines. I live in islington and have about £400 in loose change cant count it up mself to time consuming
Almost certainly there are - but remember you need an account with them to use them. They are used to deposit money, not change it.0 -
My local Morrison's has cash feed in at the DIY checkout, zero commission, just pays for your shopping as you feed the coins in
I have used them in this way, but only when it's very quiet.
Quite a few natwest branches have the coin-counter machines.Mortgage May 2012 - £129k

I'd hate to be standing behind you if you decide to pay for a big weekly shop in pennies.
I do not do a big weekly shop, trust me, your wait behind me would not be too long as I feed a couple of quid in the machine, and certainly shorter than someone chatting to the cashier about their children:mad:

OK I've been a customer of Barclays since I was a student, and I've never been tempted to move away. However, I now have abut £800-£900 in coins and I don't fancy giving almost 10% away to coinstar or any of the other coin counting machines in supermarket foyers. So here is an open offer to all banks, if you have a coin counting machine that will allow me to deposit coins straight into my account in your Wigan branch, then get in touch and I'll move my account to you.0

If you don't have any places with coin counting machines nearby, you can weigh coins, so if you have electronic kitchen scales, count out eg £1-worth of coppers, see what they weigh & that should speed things up for you working out subsequent piles. Helps if you initially pile up in groups of 10 - just match the heights for the other 9 - for the first batch. After that, just pile them on the scales to the right weight.
Probably best to keep them in separate bags for each coin value although it always used to be that 1ps were half the weight of 2ps & 5ps half the weight of 10ps when I helped my Dad in his shop as a child; I'm sure you can check that the newer, smaller silver coins obey the same rules if you need to mix either copper or silver coins (I don't think that'll work for 20ps, 50ps or £1s).
Banks should give you a pile of coin bags for free (or just separate into envelope/little bags etc & sort at the counter). They might want you to pay straight into an account, or maybe try the Post Office.
Good luck.0 -
£400 or £800 in LOOSE CHANGE. I counted £28.00 worth of copper and 5p's yesterday while watching TV. That weighs a lot. Dread to think how much £800 will weigh. Don't fancy taking that coin jar to the counting house, bank or wherever else.0

The OH and I always feed the DIY checkout our coins. But then we normally only go shopping when it's quiet anyway and I tend to feed the M&S DIY checkout on my way home from work. Makes me feel better when I see I'm putting less on my card.SPC = £15.54 #1413
