Parking fine for a car I do not own - Mistake?!

Hi all, and thanks for the time to read and hopefully reply.
Last November I sold a car and sent the v5 off. Mid January I receive a letter stating a parking fine has occurred - I sent a letter stating I didn't own the car and gave the new owners details, I also sent the same letter to the DVLA. Well, the tax was due in February and I got no reminder so assumed all had been sorted, how wrong was I? July 20th came and a hand delivered letter from a baliff demanding £320 by the end of the week or belongings taken. I called the courts and explained the situation, they said they had not received a letter from me and it was in my best interest to pay the baliff and claim the money back afterwards - so in my wisdom I did this. Now, I can't seem to get hold of anyone in the courts system to send an appeak form (which is what I was told I could get) and only advice given was by one young lad who said call the DVLA. I called the DVLA and they told me to send a letter to them with copies of everything I had - I have sent them a scanned image of the original v5, the baliff letter and the receipt confirming I have paid.
Can anyone advise if I have done the right thing and if not how I go about getting my money back.
Thanks Simon

From personal (not legal) experience, you shouldn't have paid. I had a similar situation and had to go to court. I simply told them I'd sold the car and to who and it was instantly dismissed.
I know that doesn't help you, but might help someone else.
As for getting your money back, I'm really not sureOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
You were ill-advised by the court.
You need one of the recognised bailiff experts. I would suggest the well known bailiff expert.
Would it be against the forum rules for me to be specific as to who that may be ?0 -
Assuming you mean bailiffadviceonline, we have recommended Herbie a few times on here. They do charge a nominal amount but they really do know their stuff.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Does anyone think I could try getting the money back from the actual offender?
Oh and thanks for the above replies

No chance, the only way is to get the money back from council/bailiff and the above are the best to give advice.
(ps. Not related to them in any way)I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Thanks I will contact them first thing Monday0
