IMHO they are totally professional. Whose card details would you want used if you'd had a problem and they wanted to refund you? BTW I've never accidently packed something that didn't belong to me in any hotel in any part of the world...not even a face cloth!

Thing is, if you have trashed the room or nicked a load of stuff, this advance warning's simply going to enable you to cancel your card, or try to block payment in some way.

If I was the business owner and that happened I agree I would not pre-warn.

However, in ops case it could have been dealt with a little better. Not in effect 'weve charged your card. sorry'. It doesn't sound like any malice or intent was meant, so not really comparible to somebody that trashes a room.
Women wouldn't accidentally pack a blanket, trust me :D

    :rotfl:
Ye I agree. It was probably him that packed.

So you admit it wasn't an accident? :p

Correct...it was a chambermaid... it would have been cheaper had the hotel charged my card as I'm still paying to this day as I married her!

    Are you serious?

Whenever I go away I put my stuff to one side then let my partner fill the case with all her rubbish -- so when it comes to leaving I don't really know whats our or theirs.

Although I would make an effort to check I can see how easy it could be.

I'm sure i'm not the only one either.

Hey, I know of no woman who has room in their luggage for an extra paper hanky never mind a blanket!

But you are a man ;)

And yes, I am serious, I promise you, I would notice a blanket in my bag as I check it thoroughly before leaving the room, after losing so much underwear, a hairdryer and a shoe I don't take any chances, like most women.

My parents (my father blamed my mother) left an entire bag of shoes in a hotel once. By some convoluted route involving at least one postbus, it caught up with us a couple of days later.

Never seen it for a throw, but most hotels which provide robes state these are for use during your stay, and if you want to purchase one to take home with you, then they are available from housekeeping for £35 or whatever.

I guess this small business owner is tired of losing stuff from their rooms and has decided to solve the problem in their own way!

    Hi

Looking for a little bit of help if I may?

I recently stayed overnight in a bed and breakfast along with my two sisters. I had one room whilst they shared another.

I initially paid a £50 deposit on my debit card and settled the remainder of the balance on checkout using the same card.

When I returned home I had an email from the owner saying that she could not find a throw blanket that had been in one of rooms and could I check our luggage in case it had been mistakenly packed... which it had. The email also went on to state that she had taken a payment of £22 from my card which would be refunded to me when the throw blanket was returned.

The problem that I have with this is that at no time did I see any terms and conditions or any statement informing me that she could keep hold of my debit card details and use them without my permission. The other issue that I have is that she took money from my card without first informing me or asking me.

The mistakenly packed throw blanket will of course be posted back to her on Monday morning so I'm sure I will receive a refund, but I am absolutely livid with her unprofessional behaviour and wondered if she were breaking any laws by taking this action?

Thanks in advance for any help

so a hotel has 10 rooms all with a blanket that cost the hotel £22 each and the hotel finds that all these have vanished from the rooms.
are you saying the hotel has to lose £220. i dont think so, the hotel has no ides this was packed by accident, as far as they are aware you stole it, so they have the right and they will like most hotels charge you for this until it is returned where they will refund you. if you dont return it then you have paid for a blanket and most likely a ban from that hotel and if its a chain then from the whole chain.
