  • Hi,
We are off to Polis for 3weeks in September and it is a really great place for a holiday. The people are very friendly and welcoming and we have always use Petrides car hire, which is in the village square in Polis. You can arrange hire on line and they arrange for a car to be waiting for us at the airprt in Paphos and we leave it at the airport on our return. We have ave always found them to be very helpfull. Hope this helps.
  • Many thanks again.

    Paul.

I agree with doomengloom, when you pick up your car they will try and sell you an extra policy that covers things like the tyres and the oil sump, things that are normally excluded on the ordinary insurance policy you have. We did it one year and boy were we glad we did, even the major roads can be in appalling condition and the minor "roads" are little more than dirt tracks in some cases. We since then have taken out a seperate waiver online before we go, way cheaper and just as effective, gives you piece of mind in case something should happen. The drivers are indeed a law unto themselves, makes driving in central london look civilised!! No seriously you will love the area, make sure you go to Latsi nearby, the Latsi Tavern does amazing fresh fish, caught that day, and it's great to see the staff take their life in their hands dashing the food and dirty dishes back and forth across the main road, the tavern is 2 halves! If you venture down to the marina, there are lots of tavernas there overlooking the boats, but you will be acosted every other step by someone trying to get you on a glass bottomed boat or a jetski! Can be pricy we find so we tend to have drinks in Latsi and eat somewhere less "tourist trap". But the Latsi Tavern is a great treat. Will be there from Friday, cannot wait. May see you there if we venture up in the car! Yamas!

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Agree with spinningsheep , Latsi Tavern is worth a look ( I wonder how many waiters they 'lose' every year!)
But My vote for eating is still Polis . The fully open air restaurant just off the square , the BBQ's are by the gate .

If you are in the area , go along the coast , just a couple of miles to the east , stayed at a hotel ( was a few years back , was it called Nature/natural Hotel . The owner was licensed to look after the turtles. The hotel guests could go with him and inspect the 'nests' One morning the turtles were hatching , and my daughters saw them emerge from the sand and make for the water , unforgettable.

    Wallbash, get real.
How many visitors to that area of western Cyprus see turtles?
I lived there for 5 years and saw zilch!

Well . I and my daughters did. As I stated the owner of the hotel , walking distance of Polis , ( hotel had a number of private villas, with own pools ) which we rented.
The beach ( must have been July/August , school hols) had a number of large wire cages ( looked a bit like lobster pots)protecting the 'nests'. The guy knew the time the eggs were laid , so could work out when they were due to be hatched.
If no little turtles emerged on the due day , he alone had the right to carefully scrape the sand away .
Sometimes the eggs were laid too deep for the youngsters to escape.

Yes , we knew we had a real treat seeing it in the wild , but it is possible............ and real!

Ok my memories of the exact name of hotel was slightly off, it is a few years back , but the web sight mentions the turtle cages .
And after checking with my daughters, they did recall they were lucky only once ( after a number of early morning starts).

We got back yesterday from Polis!

We stayed at the Bouganvilia Hotel which was nice but quite basic.

We hired a car from the airport and it was so easy to get to Polis (B6 & B7 road if I remember rightly) we used https://www.economycarhire.com, gentleman had a sign with our name on in arrivals, he drove us about 5 mins to his depot where we signed paperwork, even got a free upgrade!

I must recommend a restaurant called Moustakallis Tavern (it's down the side of Finikas Restaurant in the old square) the food was great, well prices and lots of it! Andreas the owner is great too, giving us free half a carafe of wine, free dessert for our little one and also a free after dinner drink. Average meal here 2 x starters, 2 x adult main course, 1 x childs meal, carafe of wine, water & soft drink was about 45 euros.

Would also recommend going to Latchi beach rather than Polis as it's has more of a breeze.
