Co-Op (CIS) OR Liverpool Victoria

I have searched for quotes on the price comparison sites as well as the standalone ones and now have to choose between Co-Op (CIS) & Liverpool Victoria (LV) for my car insurance.

I have gone through the small print for both these in detail with which I am happy.

Could anyone here advise re: which one to go for based on their experiences around customer support/claim handling/communication etc. with CS or LV?

There doesn't seem to be many reviews on CIS and the ones on LV are mixed.

Many thanks.

  • I can't comment on Coop Insurance (C.I.S.) but I have some experience of Liverpool Victoria (LV=).

LV= are very competitive price wise & they don't bump up the premium on your second years insurance like most insurers do. I read about this on Money Mail online. You could esily read the article for yourself. LV= also have a 2011 Defaquto 5* rating for several types of insurance. The only reason I am changing my motor insurance from LV= to Saga is to get better value for money. The premiums are almost identical but Saga offers a courtesy car & European cover at no extra cost.

    CIS. Based in Manchester.

    LV. Based in Liverpool.

    19 v 18 in favour of CIS?
  • Actually LV head office is in Bournemouth............I used to work for them in Motor Claims and unless it has changed the service is good..........

We've been with Co-operative Insurance for the last 6 years with no problems. Easy to amend policies, helpful on the phone. Never needed to claim, though, so can't advise on claims experience.

If you do go for Co-operative Insurance, you'll get a few membership points for each policy if you're a member (250 I think). Not worth making a deciding factor, but worth claiming what you're entitled too if you do go with co-op.

You are correct, LV= Insurance is run from County Gates, Westbourne, Bournemouth.

Where does the 19 v 18 figure come from? I found C.I.S. to be far more expensive than LV= for the same level of cover.

I'm so out of touch when it comes to insurance company consolidation!

Don't even appear to have an office in Scouseland now!

Well, whilst we're on the subject of consolidation, you don't actually state exactly what insurance it is that you're considering, but all of Co-op's life business is likely to be transferred to Royal London soon (they're already the largest life and pensions mutual). This should make no difference to current or future policies (other than co-op divi will be very short lived on the product). Home and car insurance etc will remain with Co-operative Financial Services.
