Deleting Messages in GMail Folders?

Is it possible to store a message in a Gmail folder (what they call a label) but delete it from the Inbox or Sent Mail?
As far as I can see, deleting it from the Inbox or Sent Mail also removes it from the folder? Presumably because only one copy is actually stored,
I don't want to do this myself, but someone asked me if it's possible?
Basically, they want to be able to archive things into folders, and have only work in progress stuff in their Inbox.

Yes, you give it a label and then 'Archive' it (by clicking on the 'Archive' button).Stompa0

Just be aware that if you archive a message without allocating a label it will not show anywhere and seem like it's just disappeared. You can still find the messages by doing a search however.0
