Warranty with Lost Reciept

Afternoon all,

Looking for some advice with regards to a warranty issue.

About a month ago I managed to drop my iPhone and smash the screen (d'oh!). I took it to a local place that came very highly recommmended online, and paid £40 for a new glass screen and digitizer. They also offer a six month warranty on all repairs and claim to use genuine Apple parts.

However, the digitizer has now stopped working on one section of the screen - there's a line from top to bottom that doesn't work. The phone is pretty useless, as unlocking/answering calls is tricky!

I've lost the reciept for the repair, and when I called by to ask about the warranty they refused to have anything to do with it due to not having it. They refuse to take any payments except cash, so the only real "proof" I have of purchase is an email quote.

Not sure what my rights are here - I was always under the impression that Sale of Goods Act meant that I didn't need a reciept to return a faulty product, but not sure how that applies to services and warranties! Also not sure if it further complicates issues but I'm in Scotland.

You need to be able to prove that the local place repaired it. How did you pay?
  • £40 - not much nut I'm totally broke at the minute and can't afford another £40...

The guy in the shop recognised me and everything when I went in, they're not debating that I had it repaired there... The excuse is that without the reciept they can't tell what was replaced.

Rubbish, if they haven't kept proper records, that is their fault. Are there any witnesses to them accepting that you had the goods repaired by them?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

As far as I know there is no legal requirement to keep ANY records of sales by a seller.

Haha my bad! Cash - they won't take cards, cheques or apples! Claim it's an "anti-fraud" measure...
