Hey, im looking at buying some egyptian cotton bedding - duvet, sheets etc. I was looking at some that were 400 thread count but for half the price you can get 200 thread count. So the question is, is there much difference between the two?? Also whilst im here does anyone know any place that sells this bedding cheap??
Cheers

Yes, there is a difference, you'll feel it when you see it (IYSWIM).
TKMaxx does this type of bedding fairly cheap."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
The bedding will be twice as good, and therefore it's reasonable to be twice the price. Not sure where to pick it up from though - have you tried eBay?0

BTW the higher the thread count, the more creased it gets from the washing machine, so more ironing.
300 thread count is good.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Do you have a Dunelm Mill near you?
They stock Dorma bedding in a variety of thread counts and have samples out that you can feel. I think I ended up opting for one a couple down from the best they did.
richardw is right BTW - higher thread count = more ironing required. But all cotton softens over time so after plenty of trips through the wash the creasing shouldn't be quite as bad.0 -
I have bought some lovely egyptian cotton stuff from Wallace Sacks. One set I got was 1000 thread count for £40-this is AMAZING but I can barely fit the cover in the washing machine, so have to do cover separate to sheets and pillowcases, but it is so rich feeling-its like being in a 5* hotel. I don't iron bedding, it does crease, but I don't find the 400 much more creased than the 200s I have. (yes they probably would be so much more amazing to get into ironed-but I HATE ironing lol)0

If you have a fitted bottom sheet, you don't have to iron it.
I find ironing my duvet cover is difficult because of the size rather than the thread count."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
As said, TK Maxx sell good cotton bedding - or try Matalan.Normal people worry me.0

I always buy from www. duvetandpillowwarehouse .co . uk
The quality is brill and they wash really well. Its not just the thread count but the length of the yarn used too.
I also bought the siberian goose down duvets too and its like sleeping in a top notch hotel every night. Definately well worth the extra. Even my OH says so and he does not compliment things often!
I can also recommend Costco cotton bedding too ( i think its 600TC)
Hope this helps.0
