You're mixing up lots of different issues.
As far as car insurance is concerned, if your employer asks employees to travel in their cars, then if the employee is not covered for business use, both the employee and the employer are committing the offence of using a vehicle without insurance.

If you are carrying cash, goods or samples belonging to your employer, you should check with your insurer that your type of cover is suitable.

If you are paid a mileage allowance, that is not taxable because it's meant to cover the extra costs involved.
If not, you can claim the mileage allowance as an allowable expense on your tax return.

Its my personal security as well, a lone female carrying huge amounts of cash around. Surely I can refuse to do it on those grounds let alone anything else?
How exactly would they be carrying it so that a random street gang they happen to pass knows they have it and decides to car jack them because of it?

If you're talking about an insider telling the gang about the transfer then how do you think a single lone male would be any better off against a gang of 10 armed men?

Your company cannot insist that you use your car. They can insist that you make a journey and if you decide to use a mechanism other than your car to do it that is your choice but I'm guessing if your scared of money being locked in your boot in your car then you're not going to be happy on a bus with it in a carrier bag.

Your insurance would cover your vehicle if you had class 1 insurance but would not cover the cash and your employers should have separate insurance for that.

If it's in a hard briefcase specifically desgined for the purpose it might look valuable.
A lone female will mostly be worse off than a lone male in a 1 to 1 situation and might be specifically targetted. How do you know it will be 10 and not 1?
They can insist that you make a journey
They cannot insist you do whatever work they like, if you have a contract for an agreed role.
I am a software engineer. My employer could not insist I started making concrete.

But I do agree with you that if cash is hidden, who is going to know you have it?
You shouldn't be carrying it in a transparent carrier bag or leaving wads in plain view on the back seat.

Gosh do you know I have been made to feel as if I am totally in the wrong here, what started off as kind advice has turned into a bit of an attack against me and some of the replies are very critical. Has put me off posting anything else on this forum to be honest.

Well I've said that your concerns are valid and justified.

But I don't know why you think everyone knows you are carrying cash? and you are suddenly a target.
Surely the business would hand it over to you in private and it would be covered up?

You started off asking for advice and were given it.

You then decided to tell us your "jobsworth motives" and intention to snitch on your colleagues to the "management". Now you carp because you got adverse comments!

You brought it on yourself by unneccessarily posting all that irrelevant guff.

Insurance for use in connection with an EMPLOYERS business is not that cheap cover you get for using the car for your own business, however be prepared to have your own insurance cancelled if they get wind that is what you are doing.
Obtain quotes first not from your own insurer, then if you can afford it look at your own insurer.
Sound to me like you are subsidising your employers poor business plan.

They usually want to know exactly what business and if it crosses in to hire and reward .

I have no intention of snitching on anyone, I was concerned for my colleagues as I would not want them to face huge bills because they werent covered. Even the manager had said she would lie about it if necessary. After reading all the replies I had decided it was none of my business and I am pretty sure I have said as much in one of my replies, its their problem not mine. My husband is an ex Police Officer and hit the roof when I told him they intended getting me to collect the cash once a week and transport it elsewhere. I am not that stupid that I would leave it in full view in my car either. A family member recently had her handbag stolen out of her car whilst she was helping someone with directions, in good faith, it was a distraction technique so that they could remove her bag from the other side of her car whilst she was busy with the other person, she still had one foot in the car and they managed to take it, they had followed her home from the supemarket where she had withdrawn cash and they had watched her do that so they knew her pin number and not only did they take her handbag they also went and withdrew cash with her card. She is disabled and walks with a stick. They also now know where she lives. I dont suppose she thought she was a 'target' either.
My point is there are lots of unscrupulous people out there who will try anything and in this day and age I have every right to feel vulnerable so I don't see why I am made to feel totally wrong in this matter.
Its not currenly part of my job to get this cash, I have been told that it may be soon though, which is why I was seeking advice.
