    Hi there,

Well, we have told parents now, so there is no going back!

I am in the middle of designing our invites and we are putting a few sentences on the back to explain why we are only inviting people to the night do.

"We have had an expensive year buying our first home together, but we feel the time is right to get married.

Therefore we have decided to have a small registry office ceremony with just our parents and siblings in attendance and then a party in the evening with the rest of our family and friends.

Doing it this way enables us to get married sooner rather than later so we hope you all understand"

Underneath this we are putting Directions to the venue and then information about accommodation. These two sections of text have titles (Directions to venue and Accommodation)

Can anyone suggest a title for the blurb about why we are only havin a night do? It looks a bit odd without a title, when the other two sections have one.

    Thanks

Maybe just 'General Information'? We had an insert in ours called 'Venue information', which had some of the history of our venue, information about accomodation, directions and telephone numbers! (sorry, not got my creative head on today!)

RE getting friends and families' photos, at my cousins's wedding recently she and her husband got a load of a5 envelopes, addressed them (to their new home) and enclosed a cd rom and put a few on each table with a note asking people to take an envelope and put their favourite photos of the day that they had taken on the disc and post back to them. Was a really clever idea I thought.
  • Congratulations! We are also planning a whirlwind wedding! 8 weeks today!! We got a really great deal on a photographer on Gumtree, might be worth checking out, £200 for the whole day so you might be able to negotiate. We also just ended up buying invitations from Tesco, used our clubcard vouchers to buy our wedding rings from Goldsmiths and also just bought our cakes from Tesco, 3 teirs cost £35. A bit of ribbon and a sugar flower and we are good to go!

If you feel you need a "title" in order to explain why there is only evening invites for friends why not keep it informal and say something like

A few words about our special day...

I think that what you have written is lovely and I am sure your friends and extended family wont feel at all bad about not attending the actual ceremony...well if I received that invite I would think it was lovely...!

    Good luck with your planning

Thanks again for all the advice.

darkrev - Glad to see that I'm not alone in the short planning schedule, We've only told parents so far, but i'm dreading telling others, because I know I will get horrified remarks of 'how will you get it all done' which will be most unhelpful! Good Luck!

mrsbump - that is a great idea about the cd-rom.

Karrie2129 - I didn't know that Tesco did wedding cake, are they online (I can't see them) or instore.

LEJC - 'A few words about our special day' is perfect, I will be going with that :)

We visited the venue yesterday and apart from the draught beer being a bit rubbish (OH's perception) it does look great and I think it will be perfect.

I've started to have a wobble about the timelines. Because our marriage is at 11am, I dont know how I fit hair & make up in, which means I will probably have to do make up myself, which I dont want to do, as I want to feel 'pampered' ..... I'll have to have a think on that.

I have seen 2 dresses in Monsoon that I like, and they have them in store at the Trafford Centre, so I will be popping down one evening this week hopefully to try them on.

We looked at rings yesterday and I have already looked online at Platinum prices, and I was shocked and stunned at the uplift that stores charge!!!!! It was massive!

its too late for some but dont use goldsmiths, i know its seems like a good deal using your vouchers with them but they mark up their prices so you dont really save, there are hundreds of other ways to use them where you do actually save money
tesco have just put in their magazine a picture of a wedding cake but it doesnt look like its available yet!
ive yet to come across a reasonable price for invites on ebay, if your on that tight of a budget id just get the generic ones from the high st but vistaprint are good if you want to personalise them x
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p
