Hi guys - I've been away this weekend.

I had a £750 overdraft for the first 5 years I've been with HSBC and then they upped it to £1250 voluntarily about 5 years ago - I didn't request it.

I've never ever exceeded any overdraft and never requested or arranged any change to my overdraft facility. Every year I get a letter stating there will be no change to my facility.

So it sounds like a stiff letter is in order and the guy on the phone was fobbing me off. I should have realised when he was more interested in trying to flog me a loan.

Thats fine then! Just say this in branch and say "and the terms and conditions say I shouldn't have been charged as I haven't changed my overdraft or requested unauthorised overdraft" and they'll refund it :)

The fee for the annual renewal of an overdraft is definitely an error if the formal overdraft limit has not been exceeded in the 6 months prior to the renewal date. I'd get one of the branches to sort it out for you.

And ask for the inconvenience caused in having to clean up after them to be compensated.
