Inflatable Roof Rack

Just thought I'd share this as I was looking for a roofrack for my car recently and it was going to cost over £100. I also carry a canoe sometimes and that was going to add another £40 for extra fittings. Then I came across HandiRack, an inflatable roof rack (YES, inflatabale) at £50. I bought one, it takes 5 minutes to inflate and put the 2 strips on the car, and a few more to fasten canoe to it and it works perfectly. The real bonus, besides the cost, is that when you get there you just unstrap them and chuck them in the boot, so no ugly permanent roof rack. Check it out at http://www.handirackuk.com/, and NO I have no interest in the company.

has anyone else used these since?
The problem I have is we have a honda civic which has the lovely panaramic sunroof. I'm particularly concerned that this would put too much stress on the glass roof and break it.
Just wondered if anyone bought one in similar situation0 -
I understand they must not be used if your car has curtain airbags.0

I've considered them but they're little more than a bit of padding with the middle of the roof taking the full load (as opposed to traditional ones that place the stress over the far sturdier edges of the vehicle) afaik. This weight will bear down on your sunroof so unless you have a VERY light load (of which I'm struggling to think of anything...) then this doesn't sound like a good idea.
I'd be happy to hear I'm talking complete rubbish though, as it'd be a good solution for me too if it appears feasible.0 -
Hmm, well emailed them, got a rather useless answer back. Many thanks for your email.
We are aware that customers have bought HandiRacks to use on cars with
panoramic roofs, and to date have not received any negative feedback.
Kindest regards,
Toby

The following person submitted a Reseller enquiry form from your website:
I have a 06 plate honda civic which has a glass panoramic roof and
am concerned with this locating/sitting on that and breaking it.
Do you have any experience of handirack being used on a glass roofed car?
With most racks the load is carried to the sides where it is bolted on,
these racks seem to share the load over the roof/glass?0
