Where can I find a list of national companies/businesses?

Hi Folks

I have an interview coming up in the next few days. In the interview, I will be asked to name some best known/large companies/businesses which have branches dotted around the UK.

Would that information be available on the internet? If so, can you suggest any websites?

Thanks in advance for your response.

  • Best bet would be to look along your local high street, shops, banks etc.

FTSE would probably be a good start too.

Well if you need to know of companies that have sites in every town and city then that is a very different question than the one you originally mentioned. Quite a sarcastic response when they were being quite helpful.

If you read what I said (when trying to help you) I said to look in YOUR local high street as they are all much the same.

Or, quite frankly, you could get off your !!!! and do the work yourself if that's the response you give people trying to answer you questions.

Surely, in answer to this - every business that has more than one office/outlet/shop is 'dottted' around the UK? If this is indeed the question then you could just name businesses relating to either your competitors, or your prime sales market or best branded [and thus well known] - rather than just any old large companies...depending on the role in question. Are the businesses to be large AND best know, or just large OR best known? And do they mean best known nationally or best known locally even though the company is large?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Exactly, there is a big difference between say, Argos, Weatherspoons and Barclays Bank all of which have "branches dotted around the UK"

    Hi

I am very sorry for that comment saintjammyswine. I misunderstood you.

It is companies like that you have just listed - Argos etc, that I am look for.

Could you be kind enough to offer more examples or is there a website that could give me that info?

Thanks in advance for you response

Apart from the fact that I cannot imagine what on earth useful answer this question could elicit in any interview - good God how hard is this? You are alive aren't you? You shop, don't you? How could you possibly not be able to name a few dozen high street "names" without looking it up on a list? As was originally mentioned - go for a walk in your shopping centre, have a look, if you genuinely don't know the names of "chains". If you are struggling to answer a question this simple, I dread to think how the rest of the interview will go.
