Who do we write to?

Hello all,

As explained in a previous post we discovered that our Landlady is not the owner of our rented house.
If we wish to make formal requests for GSC and TDS details who do we write to?

Many Thanks

it is YOUR LL's responsibiilty to arrange GSC and deal with the deposit so you write to them, who owns the property is irrelevant

they will be named on your tenancy agreement along with an address where youi can serve them a "notice"

What are GSC and TDS? Depost scheme?

If you want to know the owner of a property why not shell out £4.00 and download the title from the land registry?

There is nothing in law to suggest anyone is under any obligation to respond to you anyway.

    Again thanks for the reply..

GSC Gas safety Cert and yes the deposit scheme.

We already know who owns the house from Land Registry..I was just unsure who we send it to to cover ourselves in the event of any problems.

The Owner is still registered as living here but I don't want to issue letters to the Landlady's address to be later told they have no right to let and we sent to the wrong person..

sorry but you want action taken over your concerns therefore you must expose yourself to this possibility otherwise why compain in the first place

    GSC
having now read your other thread then you could perhaps beef up the language in your letter reminding the LL that it is a criminal (not civil) offence not to have GSC - see the HSC website here and here for details (despite not being the owner they are indeed your LL under "other legislation"),

inform the LL you will follow the HSE advice here if they do not act " If your landlord still refuses to arrange servicing for the appliances they have provided contact your local HSE Area Office"

    Repairs
it seems to me the LL is obviously in financial problems and cannot afford to carry out repairs so you MUST follow the correct procedure if you want to carry out these repairs yourself and deduct the cost from your rent. I cannot emphasise enough that if you go down this route you must follow it eaxctly otherwise the LL will sue you - shelter website here for detailed booklet (see page 16 "Can I do the work and take the money out of my rent?") or the summary on the website itself here
