Argos warranty

Took my sons Ipod back to Argos as main button(home button) stuck. They rang me 4 weeks later to tell me that the damage is not covered by the warranty as it had been abused!!! This is rubbish. Its just another excuse to avoid fixing it. They then said they could send it back to the same company who just examined it to get a quote for fixing it. This would cost upwards of £20 just to get the quote. Wouldn't it have been better to have let us know whilst they still had the ipod in pieces and we could have made a decision to pay for it or not at this point. Cone on Argos, lets have a little bit of joined up thinking.
ps Anyone know where I can get an Ipod fixed without it breaking the bank????

Your warranty is with Apple, your consumer rights are with Argos. I'd be inclined contacting Apple to have it looked under its warranty. How old is the Ipod?0

How old is the product? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
If its less than a year old, take it into an apple store. I took mine in after about 9 months and they swapped it, no questions without even looking at it

I've had to have two different iPod replaced by Apple, absolutely no hassle at all. One of them I'd bought off eBay and was an US model (without the volume limiter that the EU insist on), they spotted this but had no issue with replacing it.0

and you accused Argos of not having joined up thinking!
You took it to Argos, Argos sent it to be repaired, repair company send it back to Argos with an engineers report and Argos contact you.0 -

The OP's logic makes perfect sense to me.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
The OP's logic makes perfect sense to me
And to me.
Whenever I've taken a car into a garage because it has a problem, the mechanic will strip it down as much as needed to diagnose the fault then contact me to discuss it and advise of the possible repair costs.
I would be most p****d off if the took it apart, found the fault, rebuilt it then contacted me and asked if I wanted it repaired.0 -

that's because it's being stripped down at the garage. The OP said that Argos offered to send it back to the 'same company'... so it wasn't Argos that did the checks; so how can Argos have some joined up thinking when they'd only know it's not covered once it's been returned to them0 -

If I owned a car that needed to have a specialist component inspected because of a suspected fault, it would be sent to specialist to have the same work done as described by George Micheal. I would be just as peeved to see that put back together again just to charge the labour to do it all again. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
