Completion day!

Well... we finally got there. Dodgy survey, messed up leases, last minute legal wranglings.... but we worked through it all and later today will be picking up the keys to our first ever flat.

Hurrah!

Big things to do this weekend:
Take gas/leccy/water readings
Notify council
Change locks

Anything else I'm missing?

    I'd also:

    1. change banking, credit card, catalogue or online shopping accounts, mobile phone account details
    2. make sure you get a TV licence
    3. sort out contents cover (assuming you already have buildings cover)
    4. make sure telephone line is working

  • Congrats! We were supposed to be completing today, but the buyers people are soooooo slow. It looks to me like most things have been mentioned. Most importantly, enjoy your new home!

  • Out of interest how long did you wait for completion date. I have had mortgage offer approved, land search and draininage search done, survey done and am wondering how long left to exchange and complete.

  • Agree with the how long is a piece of string comment! We had our offer accepted on our purchase on 14th July, and had signed our contracts and could have exchanged on 10th August but our buyers were not.... and still are not ready to exchange. Our solicitor is pushing for exchange at least for today. You need to agree on a completion date at exchange of contracts.

Well, we've got the keys and I'm currently sat in an empty room using a 3g dongle....

Seems surreal, but over the moon. All good suggestions, but step 1 - break out a glass of vino ;)

Bagster, it was a nightmare purchasing this property. Everytime we thought we were getting close to exchange something else came up. So I have to agree with everyone below - how long is a peice of string! In my experience it was getting satisfactory answers to all of my sols enquiries that took the longest. There were about 40 enquiries all in all, and it took the best part of 3 months to get answers to them all, 5 months from start to finish for this chain free purchase.

    Hth!
