Wise Words - My Neighbour just brought a nearly new car - which he washes on a daily basis - I am watching to find out when the novelty wears out - I am very sure it will be shorter than the length of the finance of the car.

Not a good idea to wash a car daily (Well thats what a mechanic told me many moons ago!)

Do you have any contribution to make or are you just trying to be some kind of Moral Crusader?

with such a high balloon payment, is it pcp?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Does anyone seriously believe that some one earning enough to take out £12k credit for a car is incapable of understanding a keyfacts document or reading the part of the finance agreement that says deposit £xxxx 48 payments of £xxx plus final payment of £XXXX. EVERY car advert you see in a a magazine has an illustrative example at the bottom of the page- every radioo advert says it clearly at the end of the advert and I think it appears att ghre bottom of the tv adverts too. If you are in the show room for 3 hrs surely there is time to ask for the sales man to clarify himself and then check that is written into the document.

We all make posts based upon our experiences.

My oldest is 19 and there is simply no way on this earth I would stand back and let her commit £17k on a car.
I have owned enough cars to know how long that "new car" feel lasts, and it is much shorter then the repayment term.

There are a million things more worthwhile for youngsters to save for, children, houses, weddings, furniture....future!

At 21 I had sailed all around the World, these days, at 21 they have barely left home.

Well i had been in two wars and sailed round the world twice at 21:p (true)
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

My car should be OK then. I wash it every Boxing Day, whether it needs it or not.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Fill your boots then Donna, that's what forums are for :)

On the subject of the tin can in question, most car dealers are one step up from crooks so you have to listen and READ the shizzle they give you very carefully. Most people roar off in their "previously enjoyed" banger so quickly they don't even check if they've been sold a finacial lemon....just like the authour of this thread.

If you think you've got one up on a car dealer, then I would say check it even more carefully because they are far better at this than you are. They prey and depend on your desire to own a thing, in this case a car but in a different place it could as easily be a phone, tv or any other kind of shat people are convinced they need.

    Good luck

Expensive mistake. However one to learn from. Its a car at the end of the car not life or death. Also you cant always blame parents in these situations, a 21 yr old is a responsible adult. I think its wrong to pass judgement, everybody makes mistakes. You never know mate you may have the money down the line to pay of balance.
